Call quality depends on your network, your broadband speed and your router. Here is what affects it and how to improve it.

Getting the best voice quality from Xinix

Xinix aims to deliver voice services that are reliable and of high quality. The overall quality of your calls depends on how your office network is set up, your broadband speed and your router. We also provide tools that check your connection speed, and detailed instructions on how to set QoS (Quality of Service) on different routers.

Factors that affect your call quality

When you make a VoIP (Voice over IP) call, your voice is broken up into many thousands of small data packets. Each packet can travel a different route through the internet to Xinix, and from there to its destination, where the packets are put back together. Many factors can affect the packets on their journey, and some of them reduce call quality. The three most common are packet loss, jitter and latency.

Improving your QoS

When you design your network for voice calls, you need to consider several factors. QoS routers give voice calls priority over other data traffic, especially large downloads.

Test your bandwidth

A high-quality internet connection keeps voice quality high. We recommend a fast fibre, cable or broadband connection with dedicated bandwidth for both uploads and downloads. Allow at least 90 Kbps for each simultaneous voice call.
